Bedrooms & TVs
My brother called me today, asking if I wanted a television. He was in the process of moving and had some things to get rid of, I guess.
I would not even have a television if it were not for my brother and sister-in-law. I am not much of a television watcher at all, but I did appreciate them giving me a big television the last time that they moved. It saved me from buying one to view DVD movies. I probably would have just used my computer to watch DVDs and my TV tuner for my computer if I ever got the virtually nonexistent urge to watch television, though.
This television was a smaller television, though. He asked if I might want it for my bedroom or something. This got me thinking about televisions in bedrooms. The experts are always saying that your bedroom/bed should be for sleeping (and maybe sex). It is not recommended that you do work in your bed, read in your bed, watch television in your bed, etc.
Still, I doubt that it was this that caused me to prefer not to have a television in my bedroom. It even became an issue when I was married. I lost. There was always a television in the bedroom.
All of this got me looking around on the web to see how others felt about the whole thing, and I found this interesting article. While I cannot say that it ever helped my marriage, the writers of the article made good points for both sides of the argument.
Nevertheless, I have not had a television in my bedroom(s) since I became single again, though, and I have not had a desire to have one in there either. Thus, I turned down the television that my brother had offered. However, the whole bedroom thing was not the only reason, though. First, I do not have cable. Nor do I have a converter box. Secondly, the next television that I gain access to, I want to be a nice new flat screen HDTV. Until then, the box in the front room will do.
