Beyonce at the Palace 2009
Beyoncé was coming to the Palace of Auburn Hills, so my sister and I had decided to go to see Beyoncé. We bought tickets knowing that there would be the possibility that she would have to get radioiodine treatment that week and not be able to go, but we kept our outlook positive. Unfortunately, she did have to get the treatment, and I ended up going to the concert with my father.
So here is a rundown just for NICOLE:
The concert opened with RichGirl. I do not know much about the group. I listen to their single when it first came out, and then forgot about them. I was not that interested. They sang “24s,” “He Ain’t Wit me Now (Tho),” “Somewhere over the Rainbow” a capella, and some other song that I cannot remember. I wanted Nicole to at least see them, so here’s a brief video of them dancing:
After they were done, the lights came back on and they prepared for Beyoncé for about forty minutes or more. There were two stages for Beyoncé. There was the main stage and a smaller rectangular stage in the middle of the floor seating area.
There were band, dancing, and costume change breaks in between, but the set list went pretty much like this: “Crazy in Love,” “Naughty Girl,” “Freakum Dress,” “Get Me Bodied,” “Smash Into You,” “Ave Maria (Angel-Sarah Mclachlan, Ave Maria traditional),” “Broken-Hearted Girl,” “If I were a Boy (You Oughta Know- Alanis Morissette),” “Diva,” “Radio,” “Me, Myself, and I,” “Ego,” “Hello,” “Baby Boy (You Don’t Love Me (No, No, No)- Dawn Penn),” “Irreplaceable,” “Check on it,” Destiny’s Child medley, “Upgrade You,” “Video Phone,” “Say My Name,” “At Last,” “Listen,” “Single Ladies,” and “Halo.”
Everything was done from the main stage except “Baby Boy (You Don’t Love Me (No, No, No)- Dawn Penn),” “Irreplaceable,” “Check on it,” Destiny’s Child medley, “Upgrade You,” “Video Phone,” and part of “Say My Name.”
Highlights included Beyoncé rising from under the stage into the air and then out to the second stage, doing a couple of flips before reaching and landing on the second stage. This occurred in between “Hello” and “Baby Boy.”
At the end of “Halo,” Beyoncé showed a clip of her, Kelly, and her mom going to a Michael Jackson concert.. Beyoncé then talked briefly about how she was inspired by Michael Jackson and then sang a verse of “Halo” inserting Michael Jackson‘s first name where appropriate.
Here are some of the better quality photos and videos that I was able to get:
Ave Maria
Angel
Here, in the middle of Ave Maria, she breaks into Sarah Mclachlan‘s Angel. I really like the song, so it was very cool.
Smash Into You
You Oughta Know
In the middle of If “I Were a Boy,” Beyoncé breaks into Alanis Morissette‘s “You Oughta Know.” This was a real treat for me because I consider myself an Alanis Morissette fan (Yes, I still buy her albums every time that she drops. She has not let me down yet).
At Last
Halo (beginning)
Halo (end)
Here are the pictures that came out halfway decent:
