Driving Chronicles #12: It’s Official
…like a ref with a whistle. I am now licensed to drive! My father and I were going grocery shopping, and he asked if I had wanted to drive. Um, he drives a fifteen passenger van. I said I do not think I am ready for that, and then told him I had passed the road test. He promptly detoured from the shopping trip to take me to a Secretary of State, so that I could get my picture taken.
While I was in there, there was a guy trying to get his license, as well. He started to get upset because, while he had passed the road test and had his certificate, he did not have his permit. Apparently, his permit had expired. The certificate is valid for a year. My instructor told me that, that would not matter because the certificate would show that I passed before the permit expired. However, they still want to see it at the secretary of state. Long story short, poor guy had to take the written test again.
Tip: So, for those of you aspiring to become licensed drivers, at least in the state of Michigan, make sure to have you road test certificate, birth certificate, and temporary permit when you go to get your license to avoid any hassles.
Now do not think that the driving chronicles are over. They are just beginning. There may be yet another hiatus, though, while I find people that will let me drive. Maybe having an actual license will spark some confidence in me with others. I guess I should not be turning down offers to drive the fifteen passenger van, huh?
