Driving Chronicles #4:The Written Test, Again
Today, my already driving, baby sister took me to the Secretary of State to that I could take the written driving test.
This is at least my third, but possibly my fourth time taking the written test. I pass it every time, but I end up wasting the permit. I am never able to get anyone to take me out enough times to actually learn how to drive. I can literally probably count on one hand the number of times that I have “driven” a car. I have never taken the road skills test, as a result.
I looked in “What Every Driver Must Know” to see what I needed to take with me, and I thought that I was well prepared. There were quite a few people in the office, but it was not too long before I was turned away. I guess that I relied too much on memory, as opposed to the actual list of things that you needed to bring. I had everything but the two pieces of proof of residency. I do not remember having to have anything like that before, and I cannot understand why your ID (issued by the same office) does not serve as the be all end all of residency. Suffice it to say, we had to go back to my place so that I could get some bank statements or paycheck stubs.
When we got back to the office, there were even more people, but I at least had everything that I needed. Still, there was a long wait before I could take the actual test.
Including the page of ten sign questions, there were fifty questions on the test. Of course I got all the sign questions correct (I told you I could tell you anything about signs), and I only missed maybe three of the other questions. So, I was able to leave with a permit! As we were leaving the office, I saw that my cousin (whom I believe is even younger than my sister, although she is college aged) was waiting to take the written test as well.
Now I just have to get someone to take me driving, so that I can practice for the road skills test.
