Help Me Jesus…
So, like I mentioned in the last post, I am going through some things. It’s one thing after another, like a domino effect. But, I will survive…
While there are many things that help me through time periods like this, part of my survival is music. So, today, I have listened to one playlist probably six or seven times. I call it my “Help Me Jesus” playlist. There are only eight songs on the playlist so far. Perhaps if there were more, I would have listened to it a few less times.
The playlist includes songs where people are trying to find their way/peace with God or just understand, like in Meshell Ndegeocello‘s “The Way” where she says:
“they say you’re the way the light (the way)

your words are used to enslave me (hear my prayer)

Then there are songs where people are desperately begging for God’s help, deliverance, or answer. like Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings‘ amazing “Answer Me” where Sharon Jones continuously pleads:
“Answer me,
Sweet Jesus.
Don’t you hear me calling you?
I need you, Lord.”
I do not know why the songs in this playlist made me feel better today, nor why they helped me get through the day. While I cannot say that I agree with everything in these songs, I think I can definitely relate. It is just nice knowing that I am not the only one feeling lost and begging for help.
