NOT Making Measurable Progress in Reasonable Time
So, things have not been going as planned this week. I cannot say that I have really accomplished much of anything besides relaxing and, oddly enough, a little work.
Of course, I have excuses. One of my smoke detectors has been making a chirping sound at 3:30 in the morning for the past two nights. It took me both nights to figure out which one it was (it only chirped at night). Then it took me quite some time to get the battery out. I had to use a screw driver and everything. Add to that the fact I have been sick for the past couple of days. Go figure. But they are just excuses, empty reasons for not doing what I planned to do.
Nevertheless, I did start one goal today, albeit at 11:30pm. Hey, it still counts. I cut out one of the good habit bookmarks and everything. This is something that I have been trying to make into a habit for years, but I have never been successful in doing so. This is my year. I can feel it. Well, I can hope anyway.
I have been thinking about what it is that makes me fail at these weeks of hopeful goal achievement, and I think that I am just trying to accomplish too much at once. I need smaller goals, easier goals for such a short time period. I think I do have one that would have fit nicely into a week. It would have taken me the whole week, though, and I already blew that.
I still have a little time left to this break/week, though and I plan to use it to the fullest (provided that I do not take ill again tomorrow). Believe me. Earlier today was not pretty.
I have read before that making your goals known or public can help in achieving them as well. So, I have selected a few small goals that I should still have time to accomplish in the remaining time in this week:
- Finish writing/revising the letter to my friend in Guyana.
- Either mail said letter or give it to my family to mail (I don’t even have envelopes).
- Finish reading an article for my class and create the assignment for it.
- Pay my federal and state taxes.
- Start preparing my city taxes.
- Finish the next map in Advance Wars:Days of Ruin with at least an “A” (preferably an “S”).
- Continue to work on the long term habit I started today without lapsing.
That is all for now. There is not much week left and it is too late at night for me to be putting too much thought into this. I will let you know if I come up with something else.
