Precious moments in the life of Urs…

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

So, for the first time since the divorce has been final, I went out by myself. I think the real reason it took me so long to do so was because of the snow and cold. Still, there was some anxiety about going it alone.

The funny thing is that I was not supposed to be going to the movies alone. My younger sister and I were supposed to be taking our niece to the movies, but her mother would not let her out. That is another story, for another day, on a another blog.

Anyway, I ended up on my own for the day and decided to not waste it at home. I already had on some nice clothes and everything.

I have to say that it felt good. I was able to walk with my head high and with confidence. I guess it was a big step for me and something that I needed to finally do.

Now, as far as the movie goes, it was long. But that was okay. When a movie is two hours or more, I feel like my dollar has stretched to the fullest. I did not too much care for the love story itself. I was actually irritated by the repeated return to the woman in the hospital. It just did not feel like it was really necessary. Nevertheless, it is a decent movie and worth watching at least once.

What stimulated my mind grapes, though, about The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was why it had been set against the backdrop of Hurricane Katrina. I kept wondering if I was missing some higher point that the movie was trying to get across. At the end of the movie, when they talked about the roles of people in the movie, I thought maybe that might be a statement about all of the people who were affected by Hurricane Katrina and how, yet, they were not treated as if they were important. But, maybe I am just reading too much into it.

I guess one day I will get around to reading the F. Scott Fitzgerald story from which the character of Benjamin Button was drawn. In the meantime, the movie happened to have provided me with the necessary outlet to take the first step in reclaiming my life as a single individual. One step at a time.
