There is only one Saviour
In the months since President elect Barack Obama has won that title, I have heard so many people talk about him as “The One,” “Our Saviour,” and other similar appellations. I even hear church people talk and write in this fashion about Obama.
This way of thinking of Obama, while somewhat understandable, irritates me and is flawed. Obama seems to be a good man, but we have to remember that he is just that–a man. Just as he has done throughout his life as a human being, a father, a husband, a senator, etc, he has and will make mistakes. Not everything Obama does will sit easy with everyone, including Obama’s suppporters. The President of the Untied States of America has to make some tough decisions and sometimes this calls for extreme sacrifice for the greater good. While I think that Obama’s overall goals are pretty good, I know it will not be an easy road achieving those goals.
I think that it is important for people, supporters or not, to remember this fact, and, furthermore, to not turn the blind eye or “give him a pass” when he needs to be called out just because he is Obama.
Like others, I do hope that Obama can pull our country out of this slump that it is in and, in turn, make the country, and the world, a better place. At the same time, though, I know that our future is still controlled ultimately by our Heavenly Father and HIS Son. There is only one Saviour, and His name is Jesus the Christ.
